Rothamsted Farm Barns
Rothamsted Farm Barns
Construction of substructure and installation of reinforced concrete slab. Excavation for drainage and level dig across site
Groundworks for New Industrial Grain Shed
Scope of Works:
Mackin was instructed by T&B Contractors to carry out a demolition and bulk dig of an old grain store. Laying foundations for a new grain store to be built on the same location.
Description:
The demolition of the building proved tricky due to the age and presence of asbestos. Reduce level dig across site internally and externally; We carried out extensive excavation for laying drainage network; laid sub-base and reinforced concrete slab. A concrete pump was used to pour the foundations.
Groundworks involved excavating and relaying external landscaping with gravel; installation of a drainage system connecting to existing network. Works also involved remodelling a footpath; added a bollard protection system and installation of a water storage tank.
Challenges:
- Working adjacent to a ‘live’ working farm with restricted access,
- Farm animals present,
- Wild mammals & rodents,
- Maintaining site safety at all times,
- Overhead powerlines.
Outcome:
Project delivered on time with a successful handover to T&B Contractors.
