Past Projects

Henlow Sports Pavillion

Work took place to provide Henlow Parish Council with a new sports pavilion for the local community in Henlow, Bedfordshire. Mackin Ltd installed the foundations for the new building and the foul and storm drainage which included construction of two soakaway chambers located either side of the building.

Sir Frederick Osborne School

Mackin Ltd installed the foundations for an extension which was to provide the school with a 705m² sports hall, a 100m² dance studio and various welfare facility rooms. This package contained a large drainage network including an underground sprinkler tank and an underground rainwater harvesting tank. Mackin Ltd also completed the external works on this site which contained a permeable block paved car park and playground area and the build up to a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)

Simon Balle School

Mackin Ltd carried out the drainage package, which was up to 3.5m deep, along with the foundations, external works and hard landscaping for the new school building. This included 2 new porous asphalt car parks and a porous asphalt hard play pitch along with a Cellweb tree root protection system around various footpaths adjacent to trees.

The New QE2 Hospital

Mackin installed a large drainage network which included a 348m³ attenuation tank, and a 12.3m³ bypass separator. The package extended to the hard landscaping and Mackin Ltd constructed an 8750m² asphalt car park with an anti-skid surface dressing within the parking bays, and laid 2750m² of a mixture of block and flag paving within the building courtyard and externally to the building

Barclays Cycle Hire Extension

In 2013 Mackin Construction was the sole groundworks subcontractor on the prestigious CHEI Scheme for CVU, the central area contractor for the London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC). Between April and December 2013 Mackin constructed 159 Cycle Hire Locations. This number reached 180 by spring 2014. In completing the 159 sites by December, Mackin had achieved what TFL’s Head of Delivery had described as a “very challenging launch date”. This has allowed for the installation of 2,000 “Boris Bikes” which now spans more than 100sq km of the capital.

Brent Civic Centre Wembley

Mackin were the main subcontractor for Volker Highways on this contract which included all hard and soft landscaping surrounding the building and worked collaboratively with ENVAC on the installation of a brand new integrated recycling system.  The contract consisted of the construction of a king post retaining wall and reinforced capping beam surrounding the entire centre, the construction of internal roads and external roads, paving, installation of below ground drainage, fencing and the installation of the ENVAC recycling system.  Installing ENVAC’s vacuum waste collection system, a complex network of piping that takes waste from one area of the building to a waste collection area, involved excavating trenches 6m deep and laying 6m long steel pipes along the trenches. The integrated recycling system will provide a seamless approach to waste disposal at the centre.
